For the Hardcore gamer:

1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

While this is no surprise to see on the list, Modern Warfare 2 is still a great game and certainly one that will have the gift receiver glow with joy. That is of course they already bought it at the midnight launch. Either way, great campaign, addictive multiplayer and the cool co-operative mode makes Modern Warfare 2 worth the $60.

2. Borderlands

The sleeper hit of the year, Borderlands is the ultimate (and maybe only) loot/co-op experience. Guns and items everywhere as well as insane bosses. Borderlands pits you and up to three other friends against the post apocalyptic world in order to find great riches, as well as find the bazillion different guns in the world. Will you find the mystical vault?

3. Left 4 Dead 2

Zombies, zombies, and more zombies. What more could you ask for? Another co-operative based game, Left 4 Dead 2 expands on everything the original did only a year ago. More levels, more guns, more ZOMBIES! The replay value is sure to come with this exciting package.

4. Batman: Arkham Asylum

The true reason why Batman is awesome. This game came from a no name developer and with mixed expectations, but it was at release that we saw how amazing this game is. A lengthy single player adventure spanning across an entire island and across many bosses, Arkham Asylum is the gift to give any comic book fan.

5. Halo 3: ODST

While some may consider this game a waste of time, and say it could have been a DLC title, almost every 360 owner is a Halo fan anyway. While the campaign is a tad short, it still does something different for the series. But if that isn't enough for you, tack on the new Firefight mode and the entire multiplayer suite and then you have your value per dollar.

On A Budget/Great Value Titles

1. Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition

One of the greatest games of 2008, Fallout 3 is indeed worth every penny you pay for it. The story alone will make you spend 20+ hours on it, and you still have the sidequests to complete. Find the cure for humanity in this D.C. based adventure and become a hero, or villain if you desire. And lets not forget the real kicker here, the GOTY edition comes with all 5 downloadable content pieces as well, with the entire package only $60!

2. Grand Theft Auto 4: Episodes from Liberty City

Two complete games for only $40? Well, they are downloadable pieces of content, but they look good enough to be full priced. With the newly released episode, The Ballad of Gay Tony, and the Lost and the Damned both clocking in at around 15 hours each, that certainly spells value in this recession. Coupled with the time you spend free roaming and making your own fun, Episodes from Liberty City is sure to spin in your disc tray for quite a while.
